Two Santa Gertrudis studs celebrating milestone years in 2024 have combined to produce an outstanding result for stud and commercial buyers in northern NSW on Friday.
Marking 70 years of production this year, the Yulgilbar Santa Gertrudis stud sold 71 lots at a clearance of 98 per cent, including 40 classified S bulls which averaged $12,250 and topped at $34,000 at Baryulgil, NSW on Friday.
Proston Santa Gertrudis studmasters Scott and Rebecca Dunlop, paid via online the top money for homozygous poll, Yulgilbar Titanic T156, a son of Cardona Patterson P53, bred by Blackwater’s Craig Atkinson who attended the sale.
The Cardona stud, which celebrates 50 years this year, also featured prominently in the female portion of the catalogue, with the same bull siring the best-priced female of the sale.
Yulgilbar Twilight T169, PTIC to show sire Yulgilbar Sidney, sold for $10,000 to the Atkinsons, who last year purchased the top-priced Yulgilbar bull.
Repeat client Brigadoon Cattle Co, operated by the Speed family of Wandoan, Qld, purchased three bulls at an average of $23,666, including the second top at $26,000 for Yulgilbar Twisted X T102, who had top 1 per cent EBVs for 200-day weight, top 5 per cent at 400- and 600-days and best 10 per cent for carcase weight and carcase EMA, which registered +4.1.
Twisted is by Hardigreen Park Vice Roy N44 from a Yulgilbar granddaughter of Warenda Sahara, who produced last year’s second top-price at the sale.
