The Murgona Santa Gertrudis bull sale held today at Taroom Showgrounds has proved a record-breaker for the breed so far this Spring selling season, posting an average of $17,586 from all 29 lots offered across the catalogue while selling to a top of $50,000.

The Murgona Santa Gertrudis bull sale held today at Taroom Showgrounds has proved a record-breaker for the breed so far this Spring selling season, posting an average of $17,586 from all 29 lots offered across the catalogue while selling to a top of $50,000.
The Bruggemann family, of Triple S Santa Gertrudis stud, Wandoan secured lot 8, Murgona Rambo, a son of Yarrawonga Quake (ET) PP) out of decorated show heifer and highly productive cow Murgona Liquorice, for the top money yet invested since Santa stud auctions began in NSW and Queensland last month.
The solid bidding for lots offered by studmasters and Beef 2024 interbreed winning exhibitors, Dan and Kasey Phillips, began from the get-go with an embryo package selling at lot 1 for $30,000 to Glenelg Santa Gertrudis stud, Jandowae, Qld.
The second top price bull, Murgona Rattlesnake (P), a son of Yarrawonga Lacrosse (P) out of a Murgona cow sold at lot 3 for $30,000 to commercial producer, Bill Speed, Brigodoon Cattle Co, Wandoan.
Volume buyers included Queensland producers Kel Freeman, Freeman Pastoral Co, Wallumbilla and JA & JM Dann, Wanaringa, Wandoan, who purchased four bulls each.
