Stud 1042 – This small stud was founded in 1975 by John and June Pilcher on bloodlines from Tintagel Stud in Victoria the focus being on quality rather than quantity. Over the years sires have been purchased from various mainland studs including Chesford and Twin River plus some A.I. sires, latest purchase being Walmona X-Trail from South Australia who is throwing some magnificent calves.

After showing Santa’s at most Tasmanian shows for 40 years the stud is now concentrating on commercial cross-breeding with British breeds to meet the beef markets in Tasmania while still maintaining a small core of stud animals as son David, who is in the RAAF at Amberley wants to continue on when he returns home, he attends sales and shows in Queensland when shift work permits to gain further knowledge.

Winters are sometimes severe in the Tasmanian Central Highlands with minus 7 frosts and snow but the cattle adapt and flourish under these conditions.
