The teams of Nutrien Ag Solutions and AuctionsPlus played a key role in helping the Santa Gertrudis Breeders’ (Australia) Association raise nearly $45,000 to develop more of the organisation’s young people.
As sponsors of the SGB(A)A’s National Youth Camp, Nutrien and AuctionsPlus were a natural fit to conduct the annual event’s semen auction, held on the evening of January 17.
The auction included five lots of 10 straws each from proven Santas Gertrudis sires, one embryo package and some novelty items, including 16 historic catalogues from Texas Ranch, US, the birthplace of the modern-day Santa Gertrudis animal.
The $44,200 raised from the auction, also attracting bids live via AuctionsPlus, will be allocated to more activities across the year that support young people to grow their skills with Santa Gertrudis cattle and working in the beef industry more broadly.
“Hosting an event of this size every year, with more than 130 children registered, plus parents, group leader volunteers, staff and support crews and more than 100 head of donated cattle, is a massive undertaking,” SGB(A)A general manager Brad Cooper said.
“We believe this year’s event was one of the best held since Santa Youth Camps began in 1986.
“A huge part of this success is due to the generous support of our sponsors, many of whom like Nutrien and AuctionsPlus are well-known, highly trusted brands who bring additional value to our event through the skills and experience of their people.”
Leading the Nutrien effort was senior studstock auctioneer Colby Ede, Toowoomba, with assistance from bid spotters Henry Sinnamon, Wandoan and Cam Phillips, Taroom, who also had children attending the camp.
AuctionsPlus business development manager Hugh Courts was facilitating the active online bids, with four successful bids lodged through the digital interface.
