Strong demand from both seedstock and commercial Santa Gertrudis beef producers delivered a complete clearance at the Yarrabee Santa Gertrudis Bull Sale with Wilamba and Yarrajay studs held at the Springsure Showgrounds Selling Complex.
All 37 bulls offered sold to average $10,756, with buyers showing strong repeat support alongside solid local competition throughout the sale.
Leading the market at $28,000 was Lot 1, Yarrabee Okan 1789, a 25-month-old sire prospect by Yarrawonga T802 (AI) (PS). The impressive bull weighed 1,030kg and recorded P8 and rib fat measurements of 16mm and 12mm, an EMA of 142cm², and an IMF of 6.2%.
The top-priced bull was purchased by Karen Dunlop, Spean Pastoral, Esk, who secured three bulls to average $14,333.
The second-highest price of $24,000 was paid for Yarrabee Outpost 1783, a 24-month-old son of Bullamakinka Rambo R438 (P). Weighing 928kg, he measured 18mm P8, 13mm rib fat, recorded an EMA of 144cm², and an IMF of 6.6%. He was purchased by repeat buyer Dean Carseldine, JDC Holdings, Rockadolla, Theodore.
Also among the sale highlights was Yarrajay William 368 (PP), a 25-month-old son of Glenn Oaks Truman T94 (AI) (P), which sold for $21,000 via AuctionsPlus. The bull was purchased by emerging Santa Gertrudis breeder Evie Batt, EV Santa Gertrudis Stud, Plainby Station, Richmond, and was offered by the Boto family from the Yarrajay Stud.
Several buyers assembled sizeable drafts during the sale:
💥Brown family, Sleepy Hollow, Goovigen, purchased seven bulls to average $7,571.
💥Bruce and Carmel Semple, Dysart, selected four bulls to average $9,250.
💥Zahl family, Avonmore Station, Alpha, purchased four bulls averaging $8,000.
💥BGM Grazing, Nogun, Rolleston, secured three bulls to average $12,667, paying a top of $18,000 for a 25-month-old Bullamakinka M078 (PP) son.
💥Dean Armstrong, Comet Downs, Comet, bought three bulls averaging $11,000, with a top purchase of $15,000.
Among those returning to support the sale were the Roberts family, Raymond, Springsure, who purchased two bulls to average $9,500, while repeat buyer Jeff Duddy, Collie Blue, Springsure, secured two bulls averaging $10,000.
The Sullivan family, Turkey Creek, Springsure, also purchased two bulls to average $14,000, including their top selection at $15,000, Wilamba Ottis 420, a son of Wilamba Jericho 154 (PS).
The result capped a successful day for the Barlow and Boto families’ Yarrabee, Wilamba and Yarrajay programs, with full clearance and strong competition reflecting continued confidence in Santa Gertrudis in Central Queensland for the start of Spring sales in Queensland on the back of strong sales in NSW last week.
