Strong commercial support delivers 96% clearance at NIOA RL Pastoral Santa Gertrudis bull sale.
The NIOA RL Pastoral Santa Gertrudis Bull Sale at Talgai Homestead, Allora, delivered a strong result, with commercial buyers driving demand and helping secure a 96% clearance.
Of the 52 bulls offered, 50 sold to average $11,460, generating a gross of $573,000.
Bulls sold to a top of $40,000, while the second-highest price reached $27,500.
The sale topper was Lot 20, NIOA Winchester W68 (P), a son of Yarrawonga Spartacus S336 (P) from a NIOA-bred cow.
The bull was purchased for $40,000 by Bill and Gretchen Speed, The Doon Santa Gertrudis Stud, Brigodoon, Taroom.
Notably, the top-priced bull was the only animal sold to a registered stud operation, with the balance of the draft finding homes with commercial producers.
The second top price of $27,500 was paid for Lot 8, NIOA Walter W38 (PP), a son of Riverina Roland Sanchez R88 (ET) (PP) from a NIOA cow. He was purchased by the Rainbow Partnership, Rolleston, Qld.
The Rainbow Partnership assembled four bulls on the day at an average of $20,000.
Bulk buyer honours went to Bill and Dallas Scott, McDonald Downs, Alice Springs, NT who purchased 15 bulls to average $8666.
Willsdown Pastoral, Boulia, Qld was also active after purchasing 12 bulls at the Bullamakinka Santa Gertrudis sale in Longreach yesterday.
The operation returned to the market and secured another 12 bulls for a total outlay of $154,000, averaging $12,835.
Together, the Scott family and Willsdown Pastoral accounted for more than half of the bulls sold, underlining the strong commercial confidence in the offering.
Following the bull sale, five of the 10 stud heifers offered sold, averaging $4000.
The result capped off a very successful day for vendors Rob & Eliza Nioa and their manager Shannon Gardner, NIOA Pastoral Co. and Rob and Lorraine Sinnamon, RL Pastoral Company Pty Ltd, Kyogle, NSW with widespread support from commercial beef producers across northern and central Australia, highlighting continued demand for quality Santa Gertrudis genetics.
