Scott and Rebecca Dunlop, Dunlop Santa Gertrudis, Jingeri, Proston, have concluded a stunning week of successful sales for the Santa Gertrudis breed, achieving a complete clearance of 132 bulls at their annual on-property sale today. The offering averaged $20,318 and grossed $2,682,000.
Of the bulls offered, 121 classified S stud bulls averaged $20,388 and reached a sale-topping $140,000, a massive jump on last year’s stud record of $65,000 which was hit twice.
Notably, last year’s top price record, was broken three times today – smashed at lot 5, equalled at lot 48 and surpassed again at $80,000 and then $94,000 at lots 110 and 111.
The 11 herd bulls averaged $19,545 and sold to a top of $45,000.
The sale’s top-priced bull was Lot 5, Dunlop Arlington W274 (PP) which sold for $140,000 to Hewitt Cattle Company.
The second highest-priced bull was Lot 111, Dunlop Alpheus W226 (P) which sold for $94,000 to John Howard, Burleigh Estates, Biloela, as part of a draft of three bulls purchased at an average of $47,000.
One lot earlier, stud breeder Ken Pezet, Ardnaree Stud, Charleville, secured Lot 110, Dunlop Alcaraz W234 (P), for $80,000.
Mr Pezet was also among the sale’s earlier buyers, purchasing Lot 9, Dunlop Apollo W108 (PS), for $57,500.
The top-priced herd bull was Lot 77, which sold for $45,000 to Ken Knudsen, Kilbeggan, Chinchilla. It was the highest-priced herd bull among a draft of four bulls purchased by Mr Knudsen at an average of $37,750.
The second highest-priced herd bull was the final lot of the sale, Dunlop W268 (PP), which sold for $42,000 as Lot 132 to Len Bode, Percol Plains, McKinlay. Earlier in the catalogue, Mr Bode purchased a stud bull, Lot 23, for $50,000.
