Strong demand from commercial cattle producers drove competitive bidding at the Yarrabee Santa Gertrudis Bull Sale, where all 34 bulls offered were sold, averaging $10,852.
The offering, presented under three prefixes by the Barlow family at the Springsure Selling Complex, attracted widespread interest from commercial buyers.
Only one bull was purchased by a stud breeder, Lot 3, Yarrabee Nicko 1731 (PP), which sold for $30,000 to Andrew Bassingthwaighte, Yarrawonga Cattle Co, Wallumbilla.

The sale top, which entered the ring first to open the sale, is a 23-mo son of Bullamakinka M078 (PP) out of a Yarrabee cow, weighing 910kg and expressing figures of 1.22 kg ADG, 123 EMA, 5.2 IMF and 42 cm scrotal.
The sale’s second top money was invested in lot 7, Yarrajay Versatile 359 (PS), another M078 son, secured by Bendigo Grazing Co, Cloncurry for $22,000.
The volume buyer was Rolleston commercial operation, BGM Grazing, which assembled a draft of 4 head at an average of $14,000, including purchases at the front-end of the draft – lot 2, Yarrajay Valuable 340 (P) for $18,000 and lot 6, Wilamba Nashville 358 (P) for $20,000.

Theodore commercial operators, JDC Holdings, bought lot 16, Wilamba Nile 355 for $20,000 along with Yarrabee National 1746 at lot 12 at $7000, taking their average to $13,500.
Elders agent Anthony Ball described the sale as “on fire”, with the first 8 lots averaging $17,750.
“The Santa job has been very strong for at least the last two years, and I don’t see that trend changing any time soon,” he said.
“The market has spoken very loudly today and full credit to the vendors who have delivered such a sound draft for commercial beef producers to use in their herds.”
