Western Downs sale group posts strong results at Dalby

The Western Downs sale group recorded a solid result at the Dalby Saleyards today, achieving a $10,412 average from the sale of 51 classified “S” Santa Gertrudis bulls out of 61 offered.

The sale, featuring animals from 12 vendors, delivered an average price $900 higher than the 2024 result, with a clearance rate of 83%, up 11% on 2024.

In the commercial portion of the catalogue, 10 bulls from 17 offered sold at an average of $5700, while six heifers from six offered reached an average of $5500.

The top-priced bull, Glen Leigh Upgrade U162 (PP), the first son of Glen Leigh Reckless to be offered, was sold at lot 35 for $22,000 to John Robbins and Jan Clark of Daandine Pastoral Co, Taroom. The bull was offered by Ian and Felicity Shaw, Glen Leigh Santa Gertrudis Stud, Wellington Vale, NSW.

An impressive seven bulls reached the second-highest price of $18,000, with six lots going to stud breeders:

  • John and Judy Tones, Glenelg Stud, Jandowae (lot 13)
  • Owen Perret, Kabunda Stud, Wandoan (lot 39)
  • Bill Speed, The Doon Stud, Wandoan (lots 3 & 7)
  • Nev and Sheryl Griffin, Felton Park Stud, Kumbia (lot 31)
  • Craig Hindle, Bullamakinka Stud, Pittsworth (lot 11)
  • Alan and Kelly Walker, Tara Stud, Bell (lot 53)

John Robbins and Jan Clark also secured lot 14 for $18,000, further reinforcing their strong presence at the sale.

G Crumpton and Sons, Kingaroy emerged as the volume buyer, assembling eight head, while Graeme Winks and family of Tilquin Grazing, Bollon, and Ross Tickle, bidding online from Jondaryan, each secured four head.
