Summerland Santas sell to $7000 twice
A bull from a first-time vendor and another from a breed stalwart have topped today’s Summerland Santa Gertrudis sale at the Northern Rivers Livestock Exchange, Casino, NSW.
While presenting a modest number of bulls to buyers, the vendors’ quality draft encouraged energetic bidding for some lots, especially eliciting spirited bids from producers with solid credentials in turning off highly sought crossbred progeny.
Among the successful purchasers was renowned Santa-Hereford commercial breeder John Smith, Woodenbong, NSW who paid the top money for lot 41, Anvil Creek T3, a Cooper Park Quantitee (P) son out of Kamawa Princess (PH), a daughter of Denngal Lancer L12.
The veteran producer who maintains a Santa Gertrudis sire battery of 45 head to service a 1000-strong Hereford cow herd, made his selection on the 3-year old’s early maturing high growth genetics suited to vealer production and exceptionally quiet temperament.
T3, offered by Anvil Creek managers David and Jane Dawson, Mount Seaview, NSW, will be joined at the Woodenbong property by another of the stud’s Quantitee drop, T11, out of a Macaire dam, part of the foundational breeder herd purchased two years ago from Denis McCarthy.
Mr Smith’s $5000 outlay on the thick-bodied rising sire at lot 44 saw the Anvil Creek debutants clear their offering at an average of $6000.
The sale’s other top price bull at $7000, Leefalls Thumper, (PP), lot 39, was bought from long serving vendors Joe and Kerrie Falls, Leefalls Santa Gertrudis stud, East Coraki, NSW by father and son Robert and Matthew Duff, Tenterfield, NSW.
The Glenalbyn Ned Kelly son out of Leefalls Nina, a daughter of Dangarfield Underbelly, met the market with a clean sheath. strong top line and early maturing pattern, traits bound to influence progeny from the new owners’ British based breeders.
The Falls also sold another Glenalbyn Ned Kelly son, Leefalls Toodles (PP), lot 43, out of Leefalls Macey, another Dangarfield Underbelly daughter for $5000.
Garth Williams, Lindsay Park Santa Gertrudis stud, Goonellabah, NSW sold a compact, structurally correct commercial heifer bull for $5000.
The sale was conducted by Ramsey & Bulmer, Casino, with Wayne Bulmer calling the bids.
