Two NSW Santa Gertrudis stud breeders and a prolific buyer from the Northern Territory have featured in a triumphant joint sale for NIOA Pastoral Co and RL Pastoral at Allora, Qld on September 4, sharing in sustained bidding that elevated the result to an average of $11,803 and a clearance of 97 per cent.
The draft of 68 Classified S bulls sold to a top of $40,000 for vendors Rob and Lorraine Sinnamon, RL Pastoral Co, Kyogle, NSW and $32,000 for vendors Rob and Eliza Nioa, NIOA Pastoral Co, Allora, Qld.
Eight out of nine commercial bulls were also cleared for an average of $7000 and a top of $9000, while seven out of 10 stud heifers sold for an average of $4428.
Daniel Stoten and Paul Purdue, Karinya Downs, Doon Doon, NSW, bought the $40,000 top-priced bull, Riverina Ulysses U68 (PP) at lot 4, a son of Yulgilbar Queens Council Q100 (PP) out of Riverina Montego (P).
A Junior Champion at this year’s Inverell Show and a Reserve Junior Champion at last year’s North Coast National at Lismore, the 22-mo weighed 842 kg with a DWG of 1.28 kg, expressing figures of 132 EMA, 6.1 IMF, 14/11 fats and 40 scotal.
Ian Heckendorf from Auburn, Trangie, NSW who outlaid $32,000 for the second top seller, NIOA Van V48 (IVF) (P) at lot 13, bought a 24-mo son of Yarrawonga Spartacus S316 (P) out of Goolagong Lucy L103 (AI) (P), weighing 864 kg and a DWG of 1.24 kg with scans of 129 EMA, 20/12 fats, 6.7 IMF and 39 scrotal.
The sale’s volume buyers were Bill and Dallas Scott, MacDonald Downs, Alice Springs, who paid $142,000 for 12 bulls, adding to the nine bulls they bought the day before at the Bullamakinka sale at Longreach.
Other active buyers paying more than $20,000 for bulls included Neil and Rosalie Watson, Watasanta, Tamworth, NSW; Scott and Rebecca Dunlop, Dunlop Santas, Jingeri, Proston, Qld; Sean Dillon, Surbiton Station, Alpha, Qld; Torres Park Grazing, Augathella, Qld and Armidale stud breeder Toby Anderson, Brookside, who paid $30,000 for NIOA Venom V86 (P), another Spartacus son at lot 63.
The top selling female was lot 82, Riverina Umeko U75 (PP), at $6000, while three 10-straw semen packages were offered and sold for a total of $8500 with an average of $2833 and top of $4000 for Lot 80, Yarrawonga Spartacus, the highest-priced Santa Gertrudis bull in Australian history that sold for $250,000 in 2022.
