Vendors Cyril and Denise Gauld, Bethlee, Drillham, offered 51 bulls, selling 33 for a 65% clearance and averaging $13,091.

Most bulls were purchased by buyers from central and western Queensland, with repeat clients playing a significant role in the sale’s outcome.

The top-priced bull, Moongana 4074, a 24-month-old polled son of Hayleigh Q88, sold for $30,000 at lot 35 to Ian and Rick Gitsham of Rolling Hills Santa Stud, Eidsvold.

The 896 kg sire featured an EMA of 128 sq cm, 41cm scrotal circumference, and fat measurements of 16mm (rib) and 11mm (rump).

He recorded a daily weight gain of 1.16kg and was out of Moongana 2975, a proven breeder.

The second-highest price of $26,000 was paid by K and J Knudsen for Moongana Schooner 3986, a 27-month-old homozygous polled bull weighing 1032 kg.

Selling at lot 1 and sired by Moongana Magnitude 3160, he scanned an EMA of 144 sq cm with rib and rump fat measurements of 15mm and 10mm, respectively.

For comparison, the 2024 sale saw 45 bulls offered and 42 sold, achieving a 93% clearance and a $13,190 average, with a top price of $32,000.

Cyril Gauld acknowledged to Queensland Country Life the support from new and repeat clients at their 20th annual sale, but noted buyers were “very selective” on the day.

Volume buyers, Murray and Loretta Smith, Arm and Dagger Cattle, Augathella, signed off on four bulls to average $9750.

Underbidders on the top-price bull, Peter and Pam Pullos, Killarney Park Grazing, Killarney Park, Tambo, secured lot 27, Moongana 4070 (PS), a 930 kg, 24-mo out of a Moongana dam with Rockingham blood for $22,000, exhibiting 1.19 DWG, 14/10 fats, 132 EMA and 6.2 IMF.

They also purchased lot 42, Moongana 4008 (P) for $7000.
