The last joint Hardigreen Park Santa Gertrudis Stud and Brookside Santa Gertrudis sale at Wallabadah, NSW saw 25 bulls sold at an average of $10,700, a lift on last year’s average and volume of bulls purchased.
The sale’s top price honours went to Brookside Universal 3697 (P), a son of Brookside Yogie 3258 (PP) out of a polled Brookside dam, purchased at lot 5 by Santa Gertrudis stud breeder, Ben Adams, Dangarfield Cattle Co. – Santa Gertrudis Breeders, Taroom, Qld.
Lot 6, Brookside Utah 3696 (P), by Brookside Rocky 3363 (P) out of a polled Brookside female was the sale’s second top, selling to Auburn Grazing, Trangie, NSW for $26,000.
The volume buyer was Clematis Pastoral Co, Guyra, NSW who compiled a draft of five bulls, three with a Hardigreen Park prefix and two from Brookside at an average of $8200.
Among the buyers assembling multiple lots were commercial producers from Armidale, Inverell, and Singleton, all positive signs of southern beef breeders pursuing Santa Gertrudis genetics to elevate their herds.
Bulls from the Hardigreen Park prefix hit a top of $18,000 twice, with Blackall stud breeder Liz Allen, Forest Park Santa Gertrudis stud, securing at lot 13, Hardigreen Park Bonus U6 (P), a son of Diamond H Valuer, a reserve junior champion bull at the 2019 Royal Queensland Show.
The other top Hardigreen Park purchase at lot 15, Hardigreen Park U8 (P), another Valuer son, was secured by Santa Gertrudis commercial breeders Tracey and Robert Doak, Drogheda, Bundarra, NSW.
The female portion of the catalogue, offered by Brookside, saw heifers average $3500 and top at $4500, while PTIC females averaged $4000, hitting a high of $6000, underpinned by volume buying from Anvil Creek Santa Gertrudis stud, Mount Seaview, NSW.
