Gyranda Santa Gertrudis Stud has achieved an outstanding result at its annual on-property sale in Theodore, Qld, selling 95 of 96 bulls offered for a stellar average of $12,163, and reaching a top price of $60,000.
Hosted by vendors Peter and Nikki Mahony, the sale drew strong interest from across the country.
The top-priced bull, Lot 3, Gyranda Viagra V266 (PP), was purchased for $60,000 by a partnership between Santa Gertrudis breeders David Greenup of Rosevale Santa Gertrudis, Jandowae, Qld, and John Hasleby of Biara Santa Gertrudis Stud, Northampton, WA.
A 24-month-old, dark-coated homozygous poll, Viagra V266 is sired by Rowanlea Rudolph R56 (P) and out of Gyranda Primrose P354 (P).
He impressed with a full panel of EBVs, boasting growth and fertility traits ranked in the top 10% of the breed.
The second-highest price of the day went to Lot 18, Gyranda Vincent V296 (PS), purchased for $37,500 by the Sorensen family of Landsborough Santas, Winton, Qld.
A son of Gyranda Shamrock, the 25-month-old was one of the heaviest bulls in the draft and part of a five-bull package acquired by the Sorensens, averaging $24,900.
