WA buyers pay $22,000 for top price Munnabah bull

West Australian Santa Gertrudis stud breeders Matt and Mel Leeds have secured the top price bull of the Glenalbyn-Munnabah sale held at Wellington, NSW on August 19.

The principals of 3 Sons Santa Gertrudis stud, Moora, WA paid $22,000 via Santa Gertrudis Field Director Russell Yeates on the phone for lot 4, Munnabah Stetson 1880 (P), a Glenn Oaks Palo son out of a Munnabah dam.

The sale’s second top price, Munnabah 1886 (P), another Palo son, was purchased at lot 11 by Ben and Trish McKinnon, Brewarrina, NSW for $19,000.

The sale’s volume buyers were Gerard and Robyn Dunn, Megine, Roma, Qld, who bought six bulls from the Munnabah draft at an average of $7000.

The Dunns were also last year’s bulk buyers, prizing Santa Gertrudis bulls for their resilience and longevity when used over Santa or Angus cows for the steer market.

Other buyers of multiple lots included John Brasell, Moree, NSW who picked up three at an average of $6000, and Mark and Sally Dent, Dunedoo, NSW who secured two head at an average of $12,000.

Twenty-five bulls sold under the hammer at an average of $9680, slightly higher than last year, while several lots found new homes after post-sale negotiations were completed.
