Thumping Santa Gertrudis bulls from four vendors at today’s Dawson Valley Sale, Taroom Showgrounds have sold to a top of $50,000 and a 92 per cent clearance, with the draft of 59 head sold averaging $13,711, an increase of $2927 on last year’s result.
The top-price bull was sold by Jamie and Allison, Becker, Jamally, Taroom to Thangool Santa Gertrudis stud breeders Shaun and Jo McGuigan, Cree Santa Gertrudis, for $50,000.

Entering at lot 4, Jamally Valentine Holmes V6 (P), a son of Rosevale Shanghai S598 (PP) out of a highly productive Jamally cow, weighed 932 kg, with ADG of 1.22 and scans of 143 EMA, 21/16 fats, 6.6 IMF and 43.5 scrotal.

The second top-price bull was bought for $48,000 by Longreach Santa Gertrudis stud breeders, Bevan and Maree Pearce, Bendalla, from the Annabranch stud of Luke and Carly Baker at Wandoan.

Lot 16, Annabranch Versatile V8 (AI) (PS), a son of Glenn Oaks Palo P1211 (AI) (ET) (PS), weighed 954 kg with 1.16 ADG and figures of 144 EMA, 21/15 fats, 7.0 IMF and 40.5 scrotal.

Other stud breeders paying solid money for quality progeny from the Shanghai sire included:

✅Rick and Alice Greenup, Eidsvold Station, who invested $28,000 in lot 5, Jamally Lamborghini V10 (PS);
✅David and Sonya Greenup, Rosevale, bought lot 7, Jamally Vinnie V18 (P) for $20,000;
✅The Atkinson family, Cardona, Blackwater, bought lot 8, Jamally Vespa, V20 (PS) for $17,000.

NSW Santa Gertrudis breeders Andrew and Jules Orman, Benelkay Santas – Santa Gertrudis, Mullaley, waited patiently to secure their preferred sire, Annabranch Venice V132 (P), a Yarrawonga Ironman P914 (PP) son for $22,000 at lot 60.

The volume buyer was Dack Cattle Co, Taroom who secured 4 hd at an average of $7000.
