Thangool Santa Gertrudis stud breeders Shaun and Jo McGuigan have sold all 82 bulls offered at their Cree Santa Gertrudis on-property bull sale for an average of $14,512, grossing $1,190,000 and selling to a top of $57,000.
The top price bull, Cree Vanguard V218 (P), sold at lot 3 to Bill and Gretchen Speed, Brigodoon, Wandoan, following a robust bidding duel ignited by the 23-month-old’s profit-driving traits of growth, EMA and carcase all ranking in the top 10 per cent of Breedplan EBVs.
The son of Rosevale Quicksilver Q256 (AI) (P) out of a Cree cow sired by Benelkay Hercules H30 (P), weighed 838 kg with a DWG of 1.19, expressing figures of 10/7 fats, 138 EMA, 5.3 IMF and 39 scrotal.
The second top-price bull, Cree Volume V332, sold at lot 1 to Dean Carseldine, Rockadolla, Theodore for $28,000.
Another Quicksilver son, out of a Cree cow a daughter of Rosevale King K88 with five calves, Volume weighed 972 kg, with 1.29 DWG and fats of 15/10 with 145 EMA, 5.7 IMF and 38 scrotal.
Several other lots sold just under the second-top price at $26,000 – lot 5 to Roper Valley Pastoral Co, lot 13 to Walker Cattle Co, and lot 20 to DR Joyce Family Trust.
The volume buyer was Campbell Pastoral Co, Mitchell, Qld who purchased 8 head at an average of $16,375.
