Top Price Bull:
Lot 26, Woodmillar Vincenzo (P), a long, thick-sided 26-month-old son of Wilamba Jethro 156 (PS) and Woodmillar Rita, fetched the sale’s highest bid of $30,000. Rita, a proven dam with four calves in four years, remains active in the Woodmillar Santa Gertrudis breeding herd of Neil and Lance Baker, Gayndah, Qld.
Vincenzo was snapped up by Rod Wilson, principal of Hayleigh Stud, after a spirited bidding war among buyers eager to secure his herd-enhancing genetics.
Second-Highest Price:
Lot 7, Talgai Uncle Sam (P), offered by Max and Roz Baldwin of Talgai Santa Gertrudis and Prime Hay Suppliers, Nindooinbah, sold for $21,000 to Bob Lord of Kilterry Grazing, Julia Creek.
A large-scale commercial producer and loyal supporter of the Brisbane Valley sale,
Mr Lord was also the volume buyer, acquiring 12 head from vendors including Woodmillar, Talgai, Welbatch Pastoral Pty Ltd, Warrillee and Arioca at an average of $12,583.
Mr Lord, who annually turns off thousands of Santa Gertrudis steers for the grain finishing market, showed particular interest in the Woodmillar and Warrillee drafts, purchasing four bulls from the former and five from the latter, operated by Howard Beutel and family at Boonah.
The sale was a proud moment for Boonah High School’s Cattle Club, whose students attended in their signature yellow shirts, gaining firsthand experience of a live bull auction.
The day also marked a heartfelt farewell to Kaylene Mann, long-serving Santa Gertrudis registrar and office manager, who retires on Friday, September 19 after 33 years of dedicated service to members of the Santa Gertrudis Breeders’ (Australia) Association.
Agents: Shepherdson & Boyd, simulcast on AuctionsPlus with auctioneer Jack Fogg calling the bids.
