The Benelkay Santas stud sold 32 bulls under the hammer from 35 offered at an average of $11,125, up $1675 on the average their annual sale posted last year.
Another bull sold immediately after the sale.
While NSW buyers were again out in force at the on-property sale at Mullaley, NSW, it was Queensland stud breeder Craig Hindle, Bullamakinka Santa Gertrudis Drillham, bidding on the phone via Field Director Russell Yeates, who paid the top money of $30,000 for lot 8, Benelkay Ultrabox U016 (PP).
The homozygous poll sire by Burramurra Boss 152 (PP) out of a Bullamakinka Dreamtime daughter, came with a full panel of performance figures and strong breed character.
The second top money was paid by another Santa Gertrudis stud breeder from Drillham, Cyril Gauld, of Moongana Santa Gertrudis stud who invested $26,000 in lot 2, Benelkay U2 U002 (PP), also another Burramurra Boss son out of a poll Benelkay cow.
The volume buyer was JR & SK Cattle Co, Longreach who assembled 6 head at an average of $7500, paying to a top of $11,000.
Repeat clients and buyers of last year’s Benelkay top price lot, Ken and Alex Sorenson, Landsborough Santa Gertrudis stud, Winton came back to claim three new sires at an average of $12,330, paying to a top of $16,000 for lot 11, Benelkay Unique U052 (PP), a Benelkay Sniper S266 (P) son with Yarrawonga blood in his sire line.
Bam Pastoral, Cunnamulla, Qld secured two lots at an average of $10,000, while Sheales Pastoral Co, Winton, Qld was a shade below at a $9000 average across two quality lots acquired.
Energetic bidding from NSW buyers built strong momentum from the opening call, with Nyngan producers MW & K Carter paying $19,000, the sale’s third top outlay, for lot 4, Benelkay Underline U022 (PS), a Yarrawonga Quicksilver Q680 (P) son.
