A new-look Barcoo Santa Breeders bull sale at Blackall Saleyards on Tuesday, October 21 concluded in triumph for the three vendors who presented 85 bulls in front of a buying panel dominated by producers from the prime western country of Queensland and NSW.

The response from stud and commercial breeders to the drafts assembled by Liz Allen, Forest Park Santas, and new entrants to the multi-vendor sale – Bevan and Maree Pearce, Bendalla, Longreach and Alexa Russell, Swan Hill Cattle Company, Blackall – saw 95% of the catalogue cleared at an average of $11,450, amounting to a gross taking of $927,500.

Monto stud breeder Brett Hatton, SANTAHAT Santa Gertrudis, paid the top money of $55,000 via his agent Alex Dodson, Hourn & Bishop, Moura online for Lot 7, Forest Park Remington 2565 (AI) (PP), a son of Moongana Pilgrim 3658 (PP) out of a Forest Park dam.

The 23-month-old homozygous poll rising sire weighed 807kg, with a daily gain of 1.09, and scans of 10/8 fats, 142 EMA, 4.7% IMF, 33cm scrotal and 90% morphology.

The second top price bull was purchased by Ian Walker, Strathmore Santa Gertrudis Stud, Blackall for $37,500 at Lot 34 from the first run of Bendalla bulls.

Bendalla Valu-a-Bull V316 (PP), a son of Strathmore Scout S302 (P) weighed 758kg with ADG of 1.02kg and scans of 12/9 fats, 141 EMA, 6.3% IMF, 39 cm scrotal and 94% morphology.

Volume buyer honours were shared at 8 head apiece between David Batt and family, Nuken Station, Winton and Tony Schutt, Arrabury Pastoral Co, destined for the company’s Channel Country properties Cluny and Mt Leonard.

Mr Batt paid an average of $6000 and Mr Schutt an average of $9375.

Also securing multiple lots was Mick Campbell, Bimerah, Longreach, 7 hd at $10,428 average and Paul Doneley, Dunraven, Barcaldine, 6 hd at $8666 av.

Greg New, Many Waters, Nebo, who was the volume buyer at the Strathmore sale on Monday, was again active purchasing 3 hd at $11,733 average.

James and Sarah Pearson, Bull Creek Santa Gertrudis stud, McKinlay, who bought the second top price bull at Strathmore, continued with more discerning selections, buying 2 head at an average of $19,800.
