Santalands

Stud 1238 – The Holt Family have been breeding registered Santa Gertrudis cattle since 1970. The stud was originally located at Tamborine Mountain and the first classified females purchased at several dispersal sales including Colinton, Sherglen and Oakleigh. A son of King Ranch Emperor was purchased at Tamworth in 1973 and proved to be a great sire and bred many outstanding progeny. Bulls were sold annually at Rockhampton Sale for many years until the stud herd was moved to a new home ‘Lauralla’ at Cambooya in 1984. Since then the stud herd has moved many times as other properties have been acquired. Successful sires have been purchased from many studs including King Ranch, Yarrawonga, Big Sur, Rosevale, Cumberland, Strathmore, Goonoo and Narganoo.

The Holt Family were invited to join the inaugural Big S Group sale in 1974, selling bulls at the first four sales. The sale was then located at ‘Argyle’ Kingsthorpe and was a great success for many years before being relocated to the Toowoomba Showgrounds in the 1990s and more recently to ‘Talgai Homestead’, Allora. Santalands bulls and females have been sold into many prominent stud and commercial herds over the years and have continued to breed consistently with pleasing results. We continue to breed and select our cattle based on fertility, constitution, breed type and temperament. These attributes, together with the great weight gaining ability and commercial acceptance of the Santa cattle, have been a very successful combination.
