Gyranda

Stud 3 – Gyranda represents the peak of performance in Bos Indicus cattle. Stud Number Three, it retains a breeding ethos of selecting resilient cattle, imbued with fertility for profit and carcase characteristics constantly evolving to meet the premium market. At an ever-increasing rate these cattle are slick coated, quiet and polled.

Peter and Nikki Mahony are the third generation of stud principals following Burnett Joyce and Raoul Joyce who established the stud in 1952 on “Gyranda” on the Dawson river near Theodore in Central Queensland.

900 stud cows are joined annually and 250 bulls sold to cattlemen and women throughout northern Australia, who most readily comment on their good constitution, sex drive and long working life. This consistent performance stems from a commitment to collecting and utilising data, semen morphology testing and reliable nutrition throughout their first two years.

100 bulls are sold at the annual sale in September and paddock bulls are available after semen morphology testing in June each year.

In addition to the stud herd, a large commercial herd of breeders and trade cattle ensure a commercial focus and a reliable feedback route for attributes like carcase and temperament. In recent years this has enabled Gyranda to consistently dominate the weight gain sections of the country’s two largest feedlot competitions, the RNA Paddock to Palate and the Callide Dawson Carcase Competition.

We scour the world for bull genetics that push the barriers for what is possible in producing beef. Yet we are careful to stress test those genetics through a herd of cows that have been carefully honed to perform in difficult and unpredictable environments, so that after measuring, testing and growing out we are confident they can deliver bulls that will provide you with exceptional genetics for years to come.
